A Watch for ADDers by Nick Jordan. (BA Product and Furniture design student)

Nick wrote to me to see if members of adders.org forum would be able to assist in a project he is looking at to produce a specific watch for adders to use to help with rewards for staying on task or reminders things like that.

So anyway I gave permission for him to post about this on the forum boards and link to this page where you can learn more about the project and then below is a link to a questionnaire which you can download and save to your desktop then fill in and return by email to Nick himself.

This is a basic outline of the project I received from Nick himself:

"To summarize the main function of the watch is to gain the child’s attention more readily through the use of a visual product, using 12 light blocks on the strap (each block representing a 5 minute period.) The idea being that the teacher/parent can activate the blocks simply by pushing each one down; breaking large task into smaller more manageable periods.

For example the teacher could ask the child to focus on a task for 15 minutes, activating 3 blocks, then as time passes each red light bar slowly disappears providing a visual countdown.

Once the child has successfully completed the task a reward is then presented, perhaps through just verbal praise or a sticker etc.

It could also be used as a discipline tool, e.g a time out device.

The watch can also be programmed to illustrate a daily schedule to the child through large bold symbols. It will inform the user on what activity is coming up next and what equipment it requires, providing the child with a larger sense of responsibility. It also allows reminders to be programmed in, such as the teacher setting a homework reminder for when the child returns home."

Below are a couple of design boards which give a visual image of the project. Once you have had a look at these please download the questionnaire which I suggest you save to desktop. Once downloaded you can fill this in and return to Nick at Click Here:
