Several months worth of research was carried out by writer Tony Marchant and, Becky DeSouza of Tiger Aspects, the company behind the production of the series. Speaking to of adders.org, Becky said, "apart from your family, we spoke to many other support groups, parents and their children for the background to this series." Tony has a son with Aspergers Syndrome and was able to draw on his experiences when writing the series.

The first program deals with how the family copes with Danny, prior to learning about ADHD. Becoming aware of the condition and then fighting for a diagnosis unfolds in the following two parts.

Dr.Geof Kewley of the Learning Assessment Centre, a leading UK ADHD specialist, was consulted on the production along with Andrea Bilbow of ADD Information Services.
